WINE-LESS WINELANDS: MUSEUMS & ARCHITECTURE – FULL DAY
Tour Code: FW04
We begin with a drive to the historic town of Stellenbosch and a visit the Stellenbosch Village Museum. This collection of houses, all restored to their original state, give an overview of lifestyle of the residents of the Cape from the early 1700’s through to the late 1800’s. Enjoy a walk through the town itself and admire the many Cape Dutch style buildings which have been declared national monuments.
Our next stop is Boschendal Manor House where we experience a classic Cape Dutch Manor House with all the outbuildings on a farm originally granted to a French Huguenot in the 1690’s. This property was owned in the late 1800’s by Cape mining magnate Cecil John Rhodes and, more recently, by the Anglo American Corporation.
Just down the road, Solms-Delta’s Museum van de Caab chronicles the lives of slaves who were brought to the Cape under the Dutch and British rule until their emancipation in 1834. Many relics from this era are on display in the museum.
Enjoy lunch at Fyndraai restaurant on the estate.
The Franschhoek Motor museum offers visitors a special opportunity to review 100 years of motoring history with its unique and exciting collection vehicles, motor cycles, bicycles and memorabilia housed on the L’Ormarins estate.
Inclusions: Entrance Fees for all Museums, a la carte Lunch, bottled water.
