Travel far off the beaten path to the remote west of Tanzania, enjoying its unspoiled and isolated East African landscapes.
Indulge the spirit of the adventurer in you as you experience a classical safari in one of East Africa’s most isolated and untouched wild places. Home to some of Africa’s largest herds of buffalo, Katavi boasts a wonderful array of habitats from reeded floodplains to open grasslands, dense forests, clear rivers and seasonal lakes. Explore the magnificent landscapes in search of wildlife in a 4×4 safari vehicle or set off on foot to discover the finer details of the bush.
Opt to spend a night out beneath the stars on an exhilarating fly camping adventure and listen to tales of the legendary huntsman Katabi, who the park is named after, as you relax around a blazing bonfire. A true taste of wild Africa, this adventure is the ideal option for seasoned African travellers looking for an experience that is authentic and out of the ordinary.

The town has numerous first-class restaurants, bars and markets to browse, and is the ideal place to spend a few relaxing days before embarking on a safari or attempting to scale Kili. Not-to-be-missed is the Arusha National Park (in Ngurdoto Crater), the National Natural History Museum, the Laetoli Footprints (set in volcanic ash, dating back 3 500 000 years) and the beautiful coffee plantations, which dot the landscape.

DAY 2, 3 & 4: KATAVI NATIONAL PARK
After a delicious breakfast you will be driven to Arusha Airport where you will board your scheduled flight to Ikuu airstrip in the Katavi National Park.
Visit the wilderness of Katavi National Park, located in the western area of Tanzania, which is one of third-largest and most untouched areas of the entire country. Katavi’s dramatic scenery is as varied as it is pristine. Flood plains of thick reeds and dense waterways are home to a huge population of hippo and varied birdlife. In the woodlands to the west, forest canopies shroud herds of buffalo and elephant. Seasonal lakes fill with dirt coloured water after the rains and animals from all corners of the park descend on them to drink. The park is also home to the rare roan and sable antelope species, and is a must-see for the visitor intent on exploring the wilds of the continent.
Enjoy three nights at Chada Katavi in a tent with ensuite bathroom with open air shower only. Your stay includes full board accommodation, camping fees, all drinks (except champagne), laundry, airport transfers (to/from Ikuu only), all shared safari activities (excluding shared fly-camping for a minimum of 2 people, which must be pre-booked), as well as a complimentary private car and guide throughout (when available).
DAY 5, 6, 7 & 8: MAHALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast you will be driven to Ikuu airstrip for your scheduled flight to Mahale.
Set among the forested slopes of the Mahale Mountains, the Mahale Mountains National Park was originally created to protect thousands of chimpanzees. It is renowned for its fantastic sunsets over Lake Tanganyika, which makes it an essential stop for keen photographers and safari enthusiasts. The habitat combines rainforest, grasslands, alpine bamboo and woodland. Some 50 species of animals have been recorded in the Park, predominant among these being representatives from various monkey and ape families, and over 90 unique species of fish swim in the clear waters of the lake.
Enjoy 4 nights at Greystoke Mahale in a banda.
