Tailormade African Safaris by the Safari Legends

From funky design stores and eclectic book lounges to burgers in a backyard and decadent cocktails, the Cape Town city centre is often where the magic happens. Here we unpack the Love Cape Town City Centre video.

The Dog’s Bollocks

It was one of the city’s best-kept secrets for a while, with only a select few (hipsters, trendsetters and some locals) privy to the brilliance at Dog’s Bollocks. Now, it’s become a firm favourite … if you can get your hands on a burger, that is. Chef Nigel Woods makes only 50 burgers each night, which he sells for between R50 and R55 each. They comprise a range of styles and sauces, including Mexican mole, pepper, the good old cheese burger and po boys. The establishment, which has achieved legendary status, does not offer cutlery, while seating is 1980s-style garden furniture. Woods does not take reservations – it’s first come, first served. So get there early.

Stable

A store showcasing over 115 local design brands, this collective in Loop Street was started by Aidan Bennetts, and is a wonderful place to explore innovative South African design from furniture, lighting and interiors to leather bags and even birthday cards.

Book Lounge

Sometimes the simplest things in life are all you need. The Book Lounge is an institution in Cape Town with all manner of readers happily bedding down with a coffee and a book. Offering an eclectic selection of books, you would do well to head on over while in the city centre, if you fancy yourself something of a bookworm.

Neighbourhood

Located on the iconic Long Street, Neighbourhood bar has been operating since 2007 and is as popular for its laidback vibe as it is for its great food and copious amount of drink specials. A favourite with locals and visitors alike, this unpretentious bar is always a good stop – to begin or end the night’s festivities.

The Fugard Theatre

Named after world-famous South African playwright Athol Fugard, and located in historical District Six on the edge of the CBD, the Fugard Theatre is one of Cape Town’s most beloved theatres. Featuring two intimate theatres and a bioscope it has hosted a number of celebrated local and international performances, including The Rocky Horror Show and Waiting for Godot.
