Overview

Our combination safaris offer guests the best of both worlds. From staying inside and experiencing the wildlife of the Kruger National Park to spending a night or two at a private lodge and all the comforts and fantastic wildlife sightings that accompany this experience.

One of Africa’s most famous national parks, there are 147 mammal species found in Kruger, more than any other wildlife reserve in Africa! Of these the Big 5 (lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant) are of course included.

On this safari we include open vehicle drives and a sunset drive. This safari gives you an amazing African wildlife experience.

Our combination safaris are very popular, balancing the activities on offer, with rest and relaxation, just perfectly.

Itinerary

DAY 1: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
We depart from Johannesburg between 06h00 – 08h00 to allow for various collection points. Our route takes us through the wide open spaces of the Highveld, down the escarpment and through the scenic Lowveld area. We stop for lunch en-route (own expense) and reach the Kruger National Park and Skukuza Rest Camp in the afternoon.

After settling in to our accommodations (twin bed chalets with en suite bathrooms), you go out on your first afternoon game drive in search of wild animals. This is not a private game drive and there may be other guests on this drive.

Dinner is a three course meal, served al fresco at our private camp within Skukuza. Wine is served with dinner but guests are welcome to bring along additional / alternative drinks which can be purchased at the shop.

NOTES
We are able to pick you up from Nelspruit if you fly into Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.

Pick up times are between 12h30 and 13h30. Arrange with your consultant if your flight arrives later than the scheduled pick up time. Extra charges will apply for late arrivals.

Please note: Photos of chalets and accommodation on this platform may not reflect the actual accommodation you will be booked into. Our combo safari makes use of 2 bed en-suite chalets.

DAY 2: SABI SAND PRIVATE GAME RESERVE
After an early wake-up call (the time varies according to the seasons and park gate opening times) we have tea or coffee & rusks (dried biscuits to be dunked in your coffee or tea). Our morning safari will take approximately 3 hours. Your guide has an intimate knowledge of the park, which contributes a great deal towards brilliant sightings!

Directly after breakfast at our camp, we head to one of the world renowned Private Game Reserves adjacent to Kruger in our closed, air conditioned tour vehicle.

We offer an optional excursion to visit select attractions along the Panorama Route in all our Safaris of 3 days or longer. We stop in one of the small towns en-route for breakfast (included) and visit attractions such as the Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondavels, Lisbon Waterfalls and God’s Window. This excursion is available free of charge and will replace the morning game drive. It will be co-ordinated by our staff while you are on safari with us. (Kindly note that this excursion is only available on the day that you leave Skukuza Camp for the Private Lodge due to time constrictions)

We arrive in time for lunch and have some time to freshen up before departing on your afternoon game drive in one of the lodge’s open game drive vehicles. This drive generally takes about 4 hours and tends to extend into the early evening. The Private Reserves are particularly famous for its close sightings of predators. Although we cannot guarantee these sightings, your chances of seeing these magnificent animals are very good!

Dinner is served under the stars (weather permitting). The day ends with discussions around the open fire about what you saw today and the plans for tomorrow.

NOTES
If you choose to do the panorama route, you forfeit your morning drive in the Kruger National Park. Unfortunately there is not enough time to enjoy both activities.
The private lodge mentioned may change to another lodge due to availability constraints.

DAY 3: SABI SAND PRIVATE GAME RESERVE
Private lodges offer two game drives per day, during which your experienced game ranger and expert local Shangaan tracker will share their extensive knowledge and love for the African bush with you. Due to a carefully planned and managed habituation process, animals and birds in the reserve have become used to having the game drive vehicles in close proximity, without feeling threatened. This allows us to get really close to them and forms part of the appeal of the Private Game Reserves!

After breakfast guests are welcome to join the morning walk. The rest of the day is spent at leisure, relaxing in your room or at the pool. Lunch is served around 14h00.
Meal times are a sociable affair, with dinner served under the stars (weather permitting). Only the freshest produce is used and this is served with the local wines which South Africa is famous for.

NOTES
The private lodge mentioned may change to another lodge due to availability constraints.

DAY 2: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

After a siesta we set off on the afternoon game drive. We conduct all our game drives in specially adapted 4×4 open game drive vehicles to allow our guests the best possible vantage point.

DAY 2: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
We rise early and depart on an early morning drive in the hope of finding some of the nocturnal and diurnal animals before they settle down for the day. This is also the most active time for most predators, both big and small. With the sun slowly climbing higher above the savannah, we experience all that the park has to offer, including the well marketed Big 5 and the incredible wealth of flora, birds and smaller mammals that make the Kruger Park unique.

On returning to Skukuza, breakfast/brunch will be ready at our camp. You then have time to enjoy a swim, visit the Skukuza museum, catch up on some sleep, visit the park shop which includes African curios, general food items and drinks, take a walk around the camp, or simply relax at the viewing platform in front of the restaurant, which overlooks the Sabie River. Skukuza is also a bird watcher’s paradise! Be sure to bring along your binoculars!

In the afternoon, we will head out once more in our own open game drive vehicle. By now you will already have seen quite a lot and we will go in search of the ones that have eluded us thus far!

We share safari stories at the camp fire under the stars after a scrumptious dinner served at our camp.
