This week has been filled with some amazing sightings… We hope you enjoy our selection of highlights!
The Matimba males made their way onto our reserve and did hang around with us for a while – deep inside the Charleston males’ territory. We sat with baited breaths wondering whether they would stumble across one another. The Matimba’s have been pushed out of their territory by other males, and seem to be seeking greener pastures. They have since moved off our property and were last seen heading north.
Totally oblivious to the presence of the Matimba males, the Charleston males spent some time with the Southern Pride but this was not without a bit of a scrap every so often.
A sighting that lightened up quite a tense week on the lion front…
One of the Southern Pride females collected all three of her 8-week old cubs from the den site and made her way to the rest of the pride.
We have had more rain this past week and the animals continue to thrive in these conditions.
We had an amazing sighting of a Spotted Hyena that turned from scavenger to hunter as it brought down and killed a large impala ram before dragging it away to the safety of a nearby thicket. What an incredible sighting for all and certainly not something you see every day!
Leopard sightings have been in abundance…
Little Bush was spotted from an amazing distance lounging atop a termite mound beneath two massive Jackalberry trees.
White Dam’s male cub was seen on an impala kill and was resting in the heat of the day! He is doing exceptionally well and we suspect it won’t be too much longer before he becomes independent.
With all the rain, Maxabeni has been hard at work re-marking his territory!
We hope you have enjoyed this week’s highlights!
