Experiencing the sights, smells and sounds of the African bush is an essential part of any safari experience. Nothing gets you closer to the landscape and the wildlife than a guided walk through the wilderness. There is immense privilege in an intimate and uninterrupted look at nature and finding renewed appreciation for the importance of these rare, untouched spaces.
Together, Singita’s five reserves and concessions across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Tanzania contain some of the most precious ecosystems on earth, and each of these can be explored on foot or by vehicle. Your senses will be heightened as you make your way with your expert guide and tracker navigating lush bushveld and grassy plains, and spotting colourful birds and herds of antelope along the way. Being up close to the land offers plenty of opportunities to learn about the indigenous plant life in each reserve. Discover the fascinating medicinal and cultural ways plants are used by the local people. For example, smoke from a burning leadwood tree is said to alleviate colds and coughs, its ash makes for a good toothpaste substitute and it’s also an effective whitewash for mud walls! The fruit of the marula tree is perhaps better known. It makes a delicious fruit preserve and is an ingredient in a very popular alcoholic beverage.
Looking up from studying the ground vegetation, you’re likely to see giraffes gliding between the trees. Or perhaps elephants enjoying a mud bath at a watering hole in the distance with a few zebras drinking beside them. The safety of our guests is of paramount importance, as is respect for all the animals living around their lodges and camps. the guide teams are experienced and qualified in walking in areas with potentially dangerous wildlife. They are specifically trained to consider the security and comfort of all concerned when leading walks.
