His endless quest for adventure has taken him across Africa, where he was a guide and mentor for six years. He then took on the role of Regional Ranger Trainer for East Africa and is now based in the Serengeti. He has extensive experience guiding guests on private safaris and believes the best way to experience the bush is on foot. As a qualified trails guide and Grade 2 walker you can expect truly unforgettable insight as he joins you, and your walking safari guide, from the region, on a sensational adventure.

This adventure is perfect for families, first-time visitors and repeat guests as it encapsulates the best of East Africa with journeys to the famous Masai Mara, the Serengeti National Park, the iconic Ngorongoro Crater and the beautiful Lake Manyara National Park. Here, he will help you tailor-make your journey by offering a range of activities specifically designed for these four magnificent regions as well as other adventures that are slightly off the beaten track. Rest assured, all of your travel arrangements (from transfers to scheduled flights) will run seamlessly.

Blessed with an astounding year-round concentration of animals and the climax of the Great Migration, Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve provides an unsurpassed wildlife experience. Covering an area of 1 510 km2, the Masai Mara is a land of breathtaking vistas, abundant wildlife, and endless plains. The Reserve is a photographer’s and naturalist’s paradise with abundant elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion and cheetah alongside the migratory wildebeest and zebra. Leopards are frequently encountered, endangered black rhino find retreat in dense thickets, and large rafts of hippo and enormous crocodiles are found in the Mara River. The Mara is also home to over 450 bird species. Grant will help you interpret your game viewing experience and can provide photographic tips to ensure you get the best angle.

Spend the day roaming the Mara with Grant who will share his wealth of knowledge on this fantastic eco-system. As a qualified level 2 walking guide, Grant can offer incredible insight as he joins you and your guide on a walking safari on the &Beyond Kichwa Tembo private concession.

Spend two nights at &Beyond Bateleur Camp in a luxury ensuite tent. Your stay includes Meals, soft drinks, house wine, local brand spirits and beers (excluding premium brands), tea and coffee, scheduled activities and laundry.

Today you will wave goodbye to the Masai Mara, as Grant joins you on a scheduled SafariLink flight to Migori; here you will be met by a representative from Coastal Aviation for your road transfer, across the border, to Tarime. On arrival at Tarime you will depart on your scheduled Coastal Aviation flight to the airstrip nearest to &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas.

The Serengeti National Park, meaning “endless plains” in the Maasai language, is undoubtedly one of the world’s most celebrated wilderness areas and is an ongoing source of inspiration to writers, filmmakers and photographers. It is Tanzania’s oldest game reserve, renowned for the part it plays in the annual Great Migration, when an estimated three million antelope — mostly wildebeest — migrate to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve. This epic, seasonal journey is a deeply moving experience and a wonderful photographic subject. Here visitors to the park can roam its sprawling plains on exhilarating game drives or hop into a hot-air balloon for a once-in-a-lifetime wilderness adventure.

&Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas is situated in close range to the Great Migration. This will not only give you a true sense of being in the famed plains of the Serengeti but will make you feel like you are right in the action. Depending on the time of year, Grant will take you straight into the huge herds of wildebeest and zebra, a phenomenon that can make you feel truly humbled by Mother Nature. Prides of lions and cheetah trailing the herds make for some incredibly exciting days in the bush. After a successful day of game viewing share your thrilling sightings around a real evening bush fire with Grant.

Spend two nights at &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas in an ensuite tent. Your stay includes accommodation, meals, scheduled activities, laundry, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and return airstrip transfers.

After a scrumptious breakfast you will hop aboard a scheduled Tanganyika Flying Company flight to Manyara Airstrip, where you will be met by a representative from &Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge who will transfer you, and Grant, by game drive to the lodge.

Lake Manyara National Park in Tanzania offers a wilderness experience in diverse habitats, from its Rift Valley soda lake to dense woodlands and steep mountainsides. Here, the Great Rift Valley is at its most impressive, with the escarpment dropping some 500 metres down to the lakeshore. Explore the smaller highlights of the region as Grant showcases some of the more intricate attractions of the park. Apart from a spectacular setting, the Lake Manyara is famous for its unusual tree-climbing lions and the vast elephant herds it was established to protect. The shores of the lake, encrusted with pink flamingo, attract more than 400 species of birds, many of them waterfowl or migrants. Large herds of buffalo, cheetah, Masai giraffe and impala roam the lake shores and the forested valley slopes. Be sure to embark on a personalised birding expedition with Grant, who loves to share his extensive knowledge of the many species you will find along the way. Troops of several hundred olive baboon appear alongside Sykes monkey and short-eared galago while Cape clawless otter, Egyptian mongoose, hippo and klipspringer are other park residents.

Spend two nights at &Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge in a tree house. Your stay includes accommodation, meals, scheduled activities, laundry, soft drinks, house wines, and local brand spirits. Night game drives can be arranged at additional charge. Please note that the camp requires 24 hours’ notice to do the night drive.

Depart on your road transfer to Manyara Airstrip where you will be met by a representative from &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge and transferred to the lodge.

The Ngorongoro Crater in Northern Tanzania, once a gigantic volcano, is the largest intact caldera in the world. Some maintain that before it erupted, it would have been higher than Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. Today, long since having collapsed and eroded, it is an extensive highland area with the famous 600 m deep Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. As you descend to the Crater floor, Grant will help you search for the iconic black rhino, which are protected within its rim and the giant tusked elephants that wander the forests. Be on the lookout for the many different prides of black-maned lions who stalk the grasslands and the large clans of hyena who laugh in the distance. An estimated 25 000 large mammals are resident in this bowl of plenty, including a population of approximately 6 000 resident wildebeest, 16 highly endangered black rhino and around 70 lions. Cheetah move in and out of the Crater, while leopard are most often encountered in the spectacular Lerai Forest. &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, consistently recognised as one of the world’s most luxurious and elegant places to stay, sits right on the edge of the Crater, offering unbeatable views of one of the natural travel wonders of the world.

Another exciting way to experience the Crater is on an informative walking safari along the Crater rim. The crater itself is an astonishing sight from any angle, but the view from its rim is unforgettable. Descend into this high-walled Eden with a private vehicle and spend entire days rambling around its golden base, surrounded by some of the highest game densities in Tanzania.

Spend two nights at &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge in a suite. Your stay includes accommodation, meals, scheduled activities, laundry, soft drinks, house wines and local brand spirits.

Grant will bid you farewell on your last day, from the lodge, where you will be driven to Manyara Airstrip to board your scheduled Tanganyika Flying Company flight to Kilimanjaro Airport, here you will connect to your scheduled SafariLink flight to Wilson Airport. Upon arrival, you will be by an &Beyond representative who will assist you with a road transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your outbound flight.
