Photo Series: Young Cheetahs Make a Kill

//Photo Series: Young Cheetahs Make a Kill

A rarely seen event unfolded at Lion Sands Kruger Park… One of our field guides, Simon Mbambo tracked and found three young cheetahs – an extraordinary sighting in itself. Cheetahs are very seldom seen at Lion Sands because of the high density of other predators and habitat that isn’t well suited to cheetahs.

When my guests and I arrived to the sighting, it was clear that the cheetahs were hunting! After following them for about 15 minutes, the unbelievable happened. We watched as a young nyala ran right past our vehicle, with one of the cheetahs close on her tail. The cheetah then took the nyala down in full view of us. We shared a mix of great excitement and sadness at witnessing a cheetah hunt and successfully make a kill.
