Singita’s founding lodges, Singita Ebony and Singita Boulders are located in the Sabi Sand Reserve in South Africa. This private reserve is an area known for prolific wildlife and exclusive game viewing. Formerly the family home of Singita founder Luke Bailes’ grandfather, Singita Castleton is an exclusive use lodge set within 45,000 acres of private reserve.

Singita Castleton consists of a main house with communal living spaces, and accommodation located in six individual cottages within the grounds, catering for up to 12 people. It is steeped in history, capturing the spirit of the original Castleton house, giving the lodge a historical and comforting nature. Singita Castleton has been designed to combine the best elements of a private safari lodge with the rustic charms of a country farmhouse,

with the added benefit of extensive high-end facilities, including a vast garden, swimming pool, wine cellar, gym, tennis court and spa treatment room. Guests can relax together in the courtyard, gather around the traditional ‘boma’ or meet in the country-style kitchen, yet the individual cottages allow guests to retreat to the privacy of their own space as and when it’s needed. All of this is overlooking a waterhole where animals regularly gather to drink.

Singita Sabi Sands Game Viewing

Wildlife in Singita Sabi Sands lives up to its international reputation. Abundant in the Big Five and myriad smaller creatures, the reserve is bisected by the Sand River, an important source of water and a consistent place of refuge on the animals’ endless migration. The lie of the land is perfectly suited to game viewing.

Groves of acacia thornveld, Marula trees and flatcrowns give way to open expanses of grassland, where zebra, antelope and wildebeest graze, ever wary of the threat of the large cats. Drainage lines and dry river beds are leopard territory, these majestic cats are often spotted poised in the fork of a tree with a good vantage of the ground below.

The days at Singita Sabi Sands start early, just as the sun begins to lighten the sky in the east. Your personal ranger and tracker, who accompany you on your wildlife expeditions for the duration of your stay, greet you in the main lodge with a warm beverage and light snack before you head out into the wonder of the African bush. Most of the trackers have an uncanny sixth sense about the wild, their intuition borders on the supernatural. The Sabi Sand region is one of the most prolific wildlife areas in the world.
