Chobe under Canvas consists of comfortable mobile safari tents with ensuite bathrooms (with flush w.c. and steaming hot bucket shower) at secluded campsites in the game-rich Chobe National Park offer up close and personal encounters with Botswana’s wildlife.

Carefully positioned as close as possible to the resident game, enjoy the simplicity of our mobile tents at private campsites in one of the top wildlife areas in the world, and home to some of the largest elephant herds on the African continent.

Evidence of vast herds of wildlife wandering the African bush exists on the well-used animal trails that meander between the tents.

The Camp

Green shadows on the walls of your tent, faint birdsong filtering through the trees and the sweet fragrance of morning dew on bush vegetation welcome each new day at Chobe Under Canvas. Steaming hot water in your ensuite bathroom’s bucket shower refreshes and revitalises for the day ahead. Shady veranda areas offer a vantage point to enjoy the smaller details of bush life. Crisp linens and a spacious double bed welcome weary bodies after a long day filled with discovery.

Set in secluded campsites in the game-rich Chobe National Park, five ensuite safari tents form an intimate cluster of warmth and comfort. Tucked in the shade of a dense forest deep in the pristine African bush, a maximum of ten guests revel in the total isolation of these private wildlife sites. Night time noises filter through canvas walls and well-used animal trails bring unexpected visitors to thrill and delight.

Tented guest areas create shady spaces to relax in the heat of the day or share a drink with friends in the evening hours, as dishes full of flavour find their way to dining tables. Sated, draw your chair closer to the fire as talk and laughter merge into the starry night, swapping stories meant to last a lifetime.

BOAT CRUISE ON THE CHOBE RIVER

The best way to end a day of safari here is sipping on a cocktail while watching an African sunset over the still waters of the Chobe River from the comfort of one of our specially designed riverboats. Sundowner cruises are also a great way of seeing buffalo up close as they come out of the shade to graze in the cooler evenings and elephants as they wade in the river. Chobe is renowned for its abundance of dramatic sable and roan antelopes with their impressive horns. Sitatungas – antelope with splayed feet to help them run in swamps – are often seen here, as are the wild dog and lion that prey upon them.

GAME DRIVES

Renowned as one of the top wildlife reserves in the world, morning and afternoon game drives explore the game rich landscape of Chobe National Park. &Beyond’s professionally trained guides will ask you about your favourite wildlife and will do their best to ensure that your preferences are met, whether it is tracking a particular species or spending more time enjoying each sighting and getting to know the habits of the animals. They will also tell you about the vegetation of the region and will explain the behaviour of the animals that you come across. In some cases, the guides will be able to identify individual animals and let you know about their history and habits.
