Situated Southwest of Kenya, covering an area of 1 510 square km, the Masai Mara is a land of breathtaking vistas, abundant wildlife, and endless plains. The Masai Mara is home to an excellent year-round concentration of game and is renowned for its annual visit by the two million animals that make up the Great Migration.

Verdant rolling hills of endless green, great blue skies and spectacular landscape views are what the Chyulu Hills provide to nature lovers. Large mammals include buffalo, bushbucks, elands, elephants, leopards, giant forest hogs, bush pigs, reedbucks and giraffes along with various reptiles and insects. Horse riding, camping, mountain climbing and bird watching can be enjoyed in this hidden part of paradise.

Amboseli National Park, formerly Maasai Amboseli Game Reserve, is in Kajiado County, Kenya. The park is 39,206 hectares in size at the core of an 8,000 square kilometres ecosystem that spreads across the Kenya-Tanzania border.

Made famous by conservationist Joy Adamson and the film based on her book “Born Free”, Meru National Park features 13 rivers and supports a wide range of diverse habitats. It is a paradise for bird watchers, as several rare bird species are found here.

With its palm groves and dense forests the Samburu National Reserve offers pristine wilderness and breathtaking surrounds, boasting exceptional game viewing in remote splendour.

Lying on the edge of the Northern Frontier, the Laikipia Plateau stretches from the slopes of snow-capped Mt Kenya to the rim of the Great Rift Valley. Laikipia boasts one of the largest elephant populations in East Africa and is one of the last strongholds of the endangered black rhino.

Protected by an offshore barrier coral reef, Kenya’s south coast is famous for beautiful and safe beaches, as well as spectacular diving, fishing and surfing.

Weather and Best Time to go on a Kenya Safari

Kenya’s climate varies across the country, from the tropical humidity of the coast, the dry heat of the savannah or semi-arid areas and the cool air of the highlands. Temperatures in these areas are fairly constant year round with an average of 27°C at the coast, 21°C to 27°C in the hinterland, while in Nairobi and the highlands over 5,000 ft, the daytime temperatures normally range between 19°C and 24°C.

Most parts of the country experience two rainy seasons: the ‘long rains’ falling over a ten week period between April and June, and the ‘short rains’ over a five week period between November and December. The rain tends to fall mainly at night and is usually a short and heavy tropical downpour.

Rain may occasionally fall outside of the normal rainy seasons. In the highland areas north of Nairobi it may get chilly at night or in the early mornings – especially June, July, August when temperatures are cooler.
