Hideaways Africa Safaris

Discover the natural wonders of Zimbabwe and see why it is one of the last great frontiers of unspoiled wilderness – where the rule of the wild continues as it has, uninterrupted for thousands of years. Experience Victoria Falls, the majesty of the Zambezi River, and the raw wilderness of Hwange National Park. Feel the breeze in your hair on a sunset voyage in a traditional East-African style dhow along Africa’s 4th largest river, and savour the kind of peace and fulfilment that you can only find in Africa.

Feel the same awe and wonderment as one of Africa’s greatest explorers, Sir David Livingstone at his first sight of the majestic Victoria Falls, remarking that “The whole scene was extremely beautiful; the banks and islands dotted over the river are adorned with sylvan vegetation of great variety of colour and form… no one can imagine the beauty of the view from anything witnessed in England. It had never been seen before by European eyes, but scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight.”

Then venture deep into the African bush of Hwange National Park and discover why unusually massive ‘super-herds’ of elephants have chosen this land as their sanctuary. Stay at our bespoke eco-lodge Elephant’s Eye, with free reign to explore our private concession, and you may even be lucky enough to be paid a personal visit by these grand behemoths as you relax poolside.

Day 1 & 2
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
OVERNIGHT: VICTORIA FALLS HOTEL
Explore Victoria Falls town to discover this laid back travel hub where you can visit charming cafes or bustling markets. Be dazzled by the roar of the “Smoke that Thunders” and feel the cool spray of the fine mist that rises meters above mighty falls where thousands of litres of water plunge down a steep gorge, gouging out a winding canyon below. Thrill-seekers can choose from adrenaline-pumping adventure activities such as bungee jumping, white water rafting, and helicopter flips. In the evening you will be transported on an intimate journey along the Zambezi River on a hand-crafted East African dhow that promises absolute serenity, before returning to the sumptuous comfort of your “grand old lady” of a colonial style hotel.

Day 3
Hwange, Zimbabwe
OVERNIGHT: ELEPHANT’S EYE, HWANGE
Leave the hustle and bustle of the town behind you on your choice of road transfer or short charter flight as you journey onward to our Eco-lodge, Elephant’s Eye, Hwange, for the beginning of your safari experience deep in the heart of the wild. Along the way, meet some local Zimbabweans in a nearby village and learn about their crafts, hear stories of their daily lives and discover how this special community and our lodge are profoundly intertwined. On arrival at the lodge, you will be welcomed with warm smiles and open arms, as you get settled into your private tree-house chalets. Treat yourself to a sundowner cocktail and perhaps even a dip in the pool before dining on Chef Moffat’s magnificent culinary creations. In the evening listen to tales of folklore and adventure as you sit around a crackling campfire beneath the stars, and back at your room fall asleep to the sounds of the African bush.

Day 4 & 5
Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe
OVERNIGHT: ELEPHANT’S EYE, HWANGE
Hwange National Park is far from the maddening crowds and a haven for a variety of African wildlife that you can experience on game drives through the park. Spend your days exploring this vast reserve and discover the secluded hides and waterholes where wildlife roams freely, or visit the ancient Matoa ruins located on a hill right across from our lodge’s entrance that provides an amazing vantage point for game viewing. Enjoy a delicious picnic in the veld, overlooking a waterhole where perhaps some animals will be quenching their thirst ever watchful that they don’t become a predator’s lunch. You’ll also have the opportunity to experience early morning or night-time game drives on our private concession where our skilled and enthusiastic guides will use their expert knowledge to reveal the secrets of the bush and ensure that your safari experience is thrillingly unforgettable.
